Morphean’s cloud video solution helps municipalities like Aesch fight illegal dumping securely and efficiently.
Illegal dumping at public container sites is an increasing challenge faced by many municipalities across Europe. Overflowing trash not only creates an eyesore but also raises hygiene and environmental concerns.
The municipality of Aesch in the canton of Basel, Switzerland, was determined to tackle this issue head-on. After initial efforts such as signage and a modernised container park proved ineffective, the community turned to a smarter solution: a 24/7 video surveillance system powered by innovative technology.
This advanced system was implemented by Swiss service provider EOTEC and is based on the EPV4 power housing unit from SLAT. EPV4 leverages existing street lighting infrastructure to supply continuous energy to connected devices. It stores power at night using a high-capacity LFP battery, ensuring uninterrupted video surveillance and data transfer during the day, even when the lighting is off.
In Aesch, the setup includes two key components connected to EPV4:
The EPV4 features a managed Layer 2 switch supporting up to five connections: 4 x PoE/PoE+/HiPoE and 1 x SFP for fiber connectivity.
To ensure full compliance with privacy regulations, EOTEC integrates Morphean’s secure, cloud-based video surveillance platform. All recordings are encrypted and stored in the cloud, accessible only to authorised personnel with strict data protection credentials. Data is automatically deleted after 7 days, safeguarding privacy while supporting community security.
This project demonstrated how technology and responsible data handling can help create safer, cleaner public spaces for everyone.
